Thanks For a Great Year!

It came and went so fast, we can't believe it's over! The 2010 was a rousing success with our best attendance since 2003 and by far the best "buzz" ever. Exhibitors brought boatloads of nicely-priced classic goodies including surprise CGE new release exclusives, the museum was packed with thousands of items, the live entertainment was fresh and varied, and the events were as much fun to watch as they were to compete in.

WE CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S OVER!

Time to start planning for CGE 2K11 where we hope to see you again. In the meantime, here's a few links summarizing the 2010 show in case you had something better to do that weekend.

Greydon Clark and "Joysticks"

Meet Greydon Clark, director of the cult gaming film Joysticks at CGE! In addition to directing Joysticks, Clark acted in a series of action/horror films, including Satan's Sadists, Hell's Bloody Devils and Dracula vs. Frankenstein. Beginning in 1975, he wrote and directed a series of films, including Black Shampoo, The Bad Bunch (which he also starred in), Satan's Cheerleaders, Hi-Riders, Angels' Brigade, Uninvited, Dance Macabre, Skinheads, Dark Future and Stargames. In 1980, Clark directed The Return, featuring Jan-Michael Vincent, Cybill Shepherd, and Martin Landau. Greydon will be on-hand to sell merchandise and sign autographs!

AtariAge Announces New Games for CGE

AtariAge will have a large booth jam-packed with retro-gaming goodness! You'll find a wide variety of systems to play, games to trade and buy, tournaments to participate in, gaming celebrities, and tons of like-minded gamers to discuss your favorite hobby with! Among the retro goodness you'll have first crack at the previously unreleased Turbo for Atari 2600 as well as brand new homebrew titles Duck Attack!, K.O. Cruiser (also 2600), and Failsafe (Atari 7800). They've also announced a surprise homebrew release at the show and will only have a limited number of copies available. Visit the AtariAge website for all of the details!

Live Game Shows at CGE

Classic Gaming Expo re-invented the classic game show Jeopardy! in 2001 with its unique videogame-themed categories, Atari paddle response buzzers and brain-twisting trivia. In 2010 the show returns, and in addition there will be a new re-invention: Classic Gaming Family Feud! Based on the long-running television show, expect five-on-five team competition based on "100 customers surveyed" at the Digital Press game store in NJ! Details for sign-up and participation of the game shows will be available at the RetroRumble tournament area on the first day of the show.

First Batch of NEW Products Announced

Not only will you spend the weekend playing and reminiscing with the games from days past, but you'll have the opportunity to take home brand new titles for your favorite vintage systems as well. The first batch of games being launched at Classic Gaming Expo have been announced on our Merchandise page. A space shooter on the ColecoVision, an action/puzzler on the Vectrex, and a motocross game on the GBA kick off this year's new releases. More details and more games to follow in the days ahead!

CGE 2010 Alumni Guest List Updated

One of the unique features of Classic Gaming Expo is its unique relationship with video and computer gaming's "alumni". Game designers, dreamers, innovators... they have shaped the industry and brought so many of the wonderful memories celebrated by everyone who sets foot on the show floor. We've updated the special guests page for this years' event, though the list is far from complete. As we roll closer to showtime the list will grow and specific keynotes and panels will be detailed. Please join us in welcoming videogaming's "alumni" to CGE 2010.

Live Music Line-up Announced

We have a tremendous music presentation this year, chip music artists 8 Bit Weapon & ComputeHer are bringing their Disko Apocalypse tour to CGE! If you are not familiar with these two and their music, they use vintage computers & classic consoles as their actual instruments. They craft bleeps and blips of 8-bit bliss into modern electro pop!

With them come an CGE exclusive bonus: fellow chip music artists Bud Melvin & Crashfaster! Bud Melvin is known for his rock style with a twist: a powerful combination of vocals, Game Boy and banjo! Crashfaster is a master of electro/idm beats and sinister melodies.

The musical mayhem doesn't end there, either. You will also be treated to game rock band Decendants of Erdrick. Decendants of Erdrick are an exciting 5-piece classic game music cover band out of Austin TX. They will be rocking the house both days at the 2010 event!

To get more information about bands, their tour dates, YouTube videos, free mp3 samples etc., check out the links highlighted above. The Disko Apocalypse tour is raising money to bring their 8-bit music to other parts of the country as well. If you would like to help make this possible they have great gifts/perks (mp3's, CDs, t-shirts, cell phones) to offer in exchange for your generosity. Please visit their Kickstarter page to make a donation!

Call to Arms: Free Staff Shirts!

As we mobilize the logistics of the show we're reminded that there is a community of gamers who enjoy taking part in the "behind the scenes" aspects of Classic Gaming Expo. There can NEVER be enough hands on deck especially the day before the show. If you're going to be in the vicinity of CGE between Friday, July 28th and Monday, August 2nd and would like to be part of the set-up, weekend, or breakdown team, we're looking for you! There is a wide variety of assignments, from fastening skirts on booth tables, hanging signs and assisting exhibitors to watching over the tournament and "free play" areas during the show. Let us know when you're available and we'll get you assigned to a team and discuss your part! All approved volunteers will get a special CGE Staff shirt to wear during the show. Contact us at info@cgexpo.com.

Dress For Success

We've had attendees dress up as their favorite videogame characters before, but we've never done anything to reward our cosplaying guests. This years it's going to be different. For starters, come dressed up as any  videogame character and get free admission at the door (our registration desk attendants will determine if you're truly "in costume" or not, so don't come half-heartedly). In addition, we'll have an event late in the day on Saturday to determine a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prize winner, while the grand prize will go to the person with the best "Retro-themed" costume. Be creative!

AtariAge/Digital Press "Retro Rumble" at CGE 2010

AtariAge and Digital Press are proud to announce "Retro Rumble", a joint venture aimed at joining retrogaming communities in a little spirited competition as well as co-op play.

"Retro Rumble" will debut at Classic Gaming Expo 2010 on July 31st. The AtariAge and Digital Press exhibit areas will be mirror images with plenty of the great products you'd expect, but between the two booths will be a gaming area where various tournaments and challenges will be hosted throughout the 2-day event.

Are you the king of the road in Indy 500? Can you fend off the competition in a round robin Warlords tournament? Are you a better Mario in Mario Bros? Prepare to test your skills in an unforgettable union of gaming communities.

Watch all THREE sites for more info and hints of what's to come. AtariAge (www.atariage.com), Digital Press (www.digitpress.com), and Classic Gaming Expo in the days that lead up to the event.

Naturally, we'll see YOU there!
